ABOUT
Formula
for Success 2025
The NHS workforce movement continues…
Formula For Success is Locum’s Nest’s annual workforce event, a one-day, invite-only conference designed to gather the curious, open-minded, and solutions-focused people working within the NHS workforce.
After a successful first run last year and strong feedback across the board, we’re bringing it back: More ideas. More action. More energy.
Gain valuable insights from industry leaders, explore innovative strategies that other colleagues are leading on, and network with peers - all against the backdrop of the UK's premier racing venue.
From case studies to thought-provoking discussions, we've designed every aspect to deliver real value.
Be part of something special at Silverstone! We look forward to seeing you there.
** This is an educational event, and we want to ensure it's as accessible as possible for our attendees. If getting to the venue is a barrier, please feel free to get in touch with us, we may be able to offer support through a discretionary travel budget.

// SESSION ONE //
Rewiring the
NHS Workforce: Innovation, insight and action
As the NHS grapples with growing demand, workforce shortages, and system-wide fatigue, the call for innovation has never been louder. But how do we make workforce transformation real, and sustainable, on the frontline?
Speakers
Lara Mott, CEO and Co-founder of ImproveWell
Professor Tony Young, National Clinical Lead for Innovation at NHS England
// SESSION TWO //
Do banks really save money?
And other uncomfortable questions.
From agency spend to bank rates, rostering to recruitment, NHS workforce discussions often revolve around a set of “truths” we rarely stop to examine. But what if some of those truths aren’t as solid as we think?
In this session, we bring together different perspectives: data, policy, frontline operations, to explore a handful of persistent assumptions. We’ll look at what the data shows, what might be missing, and what happens when we ask better questions. The aim isn’t to settle the debate, but to open it up.
Speakers
Rebecca Shipley, Professor of Healthcare Engineering and Chief Research Officer at UCLP, UCL
Akta Raja, Current Non-Executive Director at North West London ICS and Advisor to UCLP. Former Non-Executive Director at Royal Free and ex-founder of envirotech startup
Nigel Marsh, Strategic Healthcare & Workforce Advisor
// ACTIVITY //
The Grand Prix Team Challenge
This year's activity puts you right in the driver’s seat, where innovation, creativity, and teamwork fuel the way to victory. Each team will be welcomed with their very own car chassis, the foundations to transform into a full-blown, life-sized F1 car. Build your brand, design a logo, and customise your race caps. You'll then put your creation to the ultimate test in a head-to-head race to crown the winner!
// SESSION THREE //
More than
rota cover: What people-first actually looks like?
From aviation to healthcare to media, high-performing industries rely on people to succeed. But how do they support their workforce when pressure is high and margins are tight?
In this wide-ranging conversation, leaders from different industries share how they care for staff through challenge and change, focusing on wellbeing, skill-building, and system design in complex, high-pressure environments.
Speakers
Alex Ramamurthy, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Alliances at Stream
